ME: House Rejects Bill Aimed at Protecting Consumer Privacy
The Maine House has rejected a bill that would prevent banks and other credit card lenders from selling a person’s private information without specific approval. The vote was 75 to 66. Under current law, an individual’s private information, such as average savings account balances, can be sold by a bank or other financial institution to direct marketers or other third parties for commercial purposes.
